In the siprit of Euro Cup 2008, I asked some of my football crazy friends and they don't know.
During a penalty shot, all players other than the shooter must be both outside the penalty box and ten yards away from the penalty spot. Since the top of the box is less than 10 yards from the spot, the D had to be put in to show exactly where the 10 yard area ends.
