I am currently in the processes of switching from day shifts to a night shift. I have heard that Light Box Therapy may be a useful tool, especially since i will be working hte night shift for some time. Anyhow, i was looking at Light boxes. Some Websites Offer lightbulbs. Would hte lightbulbs work just as well or does it have to be the light box? What have others tried? Suggestion of any websites would be appreciated.
i have worked 12 hour nightshifts for going on 7 years now. once muddling thru the initial month or two it took to "switch over", i'm ok with being awake all night. it's when i have my days off and have to switch back to being a daytime person, that i have trouble. anyways, try darkening your bedroom (blackout curtains etc) so you can sleep during the day, alot of us keep the tv on or a fan on while we sleep, to drown out the normal daytime noises (like traffic, construction, kids playing etc), if you live with others, you will probably have to warn them that if they wake you while you are sleeping that they could very well pay with their lives. it's also a good idea to take a 2-3 hour nap in the daytime before your first nightshift of the week. oh, and don't forget to pack a dinner in case the restaurants are closed in your town, at night. by the way, what is this lightbox of which you speak?
some people resort to sleeping pills, benadryl or herbal remedies to ensure getting sleep during the day. good luck!
